[3:5]  1 tn Or “on the fire – [it is] a gift of a soothing aroma to the Lord” (see Lev 1:13b, 17b, and the note on 1:9b).

[5:10]  2 tn The word “bird” is not in the Hebrew text, but is supplied in the translation for clarity.

[5:10]  3 sn The term “[standard] regulation” (מִשְׁפָּט, mishppat) here refers to the set of regulations for burnt offering birds in Lev 1:14-17.

[5:10]  4 sn The focus of sin offering “atonement” was purging impurities from the tabernacle (see the note on Lev 1:4).

[5:10]  5 tn See the note on 4:26 with regard to מִן, min.

[5:10]  6 tn Heb “there shall be forgiveness to him” or “it shall be forgiven to him” (KJV similar).

[7:19]  7 tn The word “ceremonially” has been supplied in the translation both here and in the following sentence to clarify that the uncleanness involved is ritual or ceremonial in nature.

[7:19]  8 tn The Hebrew has simply “the flesh,” but this certainly refers to “clean” flesh in contrast to the unclean flesh in the first half of the verse.

[14:44]  9 tn Heb “and behold” (so KJV, ASV); NASB “If he sees that the mark has indeed spread.”

[16:19]  10 tn Heb “and he shall purify it and he shall consecrate it.”

[19:15]  11 tc Smr has the singular rather than the plural “you” of the MT, which brings this verb form into line with the ones surrounding it.

[19:15]  12 tn Heb “You shall not do injustice in judgment” (NASB similar); cf. NIV “do not pervert justice.”

[19:15]  13 tn Heb “You shall not lift up faces of poor [people] and you shall not honor faces of great.”

[19:15]  14 tn Heb “In righteousness you shall judge your fellow citizen.”

[20:10]  15 tn Heb “And a man who.” The syntax here and at the beginning of the following verses elliptically mirrors that of v. 9, which justifies the rendering as a conditional clause.

[20:10]  16 tc The reading of the LXX minuscule mss has been followed here (see the BHS footnote a-a). The MT has a dittography, repeating “a man who commits adultery with the wife of” (see the explanation in J. E. Hartley, Leviticus [WBC], 328). The duplication found in the MT is reflected in some English versions, e.g., KJV, ASV, NASB, NIV.

[20:13]  17 tn Heb “[as the] lyings of a woman.” The specific reference here is to homosexual intercourse between males.

[20:18]  18 tn Heb “and the two of them.”

[25:25]  19 tn Heb “the sale of his brother.”
